Myofascial release is a gentle, hands-on therapy that targets the fascia — the connective tissue surrounding muscles and organs. This technique helps relieve tension, improve flexibility, and enhance overall well-being. By releasing tightness and restrictions in the fascia, myofascial release can alleviate chronic pain, promote better posture, and enhance athletic performance. Additionally, it fosters relaxation and reduces stress, making it beneficial for both physical and mental well-being. Whether you're recovering from an injury or simply seeking to improve your body’s function, myofascial release offers a holistic approach to achieving greater balance and comfort.

During the session the therapist will apply gentle sustained pressure to the myofascial connective tissue throughout the body, surrounding muscles, joints, bones and organs.. The aim is to release restrictions that create pressure causing the pain. Using the John F. Barnes approach and theory,  this technique provides long lasting and comprehensive results. It is known to be especially effective with chronic pain, stiffness, sports injuries, Fibromyalgia, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, whiplash, migraines, and much more.

What is myofascial release massage therapy?

Trigger point therapy applies deep pressure on specific trigger point knots to deactivate them. Myofascial release is using sustained pressure and stretching techniques to address restrictions throughout the fascia, especially on stiff and painful areas. Trigger point therapy is ideal for pinpointing and eliminating deep muscle pain, while myofascial release massage is addressing restrictions that also lead to chronic pain.

How do myofascial release and trigger point therapy differ?

Is myofascial release massage therapy right for me?

Myofascial release massage therapy may be a great fit for you if you're experiencing general muscle tightness, pain, or limitations in your movement. Many patients experiencing chronic or long term issues have found relief and success with myofascial release massage therapy, where other techniques were found to be less effective. It's particularly helpful if you have pain that seems to radiate to other areas, as this can be a sign of fascial restrictions. However, if your pain is very acute or localized, trigger point therapy might be a more targeted option. Chat with your Massage Therapist to determine which route to go!

Pain Relief

By releasing tension in the fascia, myofascial release massage can significantly reduce pain throughout your body. This is helpful for chronic pain conditions like back pain, neck pain, pain from injuries, and headaches.

Improved Mobility

By addressing muscle tightness and restrictions, myofascial release massage can help increase your range of motion and make daily activities easier.

Better Circulation

Myofascial release massage improves circulation by releasing restrictions caused by tight fascia. This brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to your muscles to promote healing and reduce inflammation.

Extended Range of Motion

Tight fascia can restrict your ability to move freely. Myofascial release massage helps loosen these restrictions, allowing your muscles and joints to move through their full range of motion. Bonus points for helping you with flexibility, too!

Repetitive Strain Injury & Sports Recovery

This type of massage is beneficial to athletes, those in a physically or mentally intensive jobs, and anyone recovering from strenuous activity as it's known for lasting and comprehensive results.

Decreased Reliance on Medication

Myofascial release techniques can reduce your need for over-the-counter pain medications as these promote authentic healing that addresses the root cause of the symptoms rather than relieving the pain temporarily through medication.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"The people are great! Friendly staff and flexible appointments. They have direct billing with insurance too which is really nice. I've been going in for deep tissue massage for the last 3 weeks and my muscles are finally loosening up. Grace is amazing at deep tissue massage. I highly recommend her if that's what you're looking for... and it takes me a lot to say that. I don't give praise unless it's deserved."

Tannis Mason

"I dealt with shoulder pain for a year and half. I saw multiple massage therapists throughout that time and no one could seem to relieve the pain and stiffness. One session with Craig and he fixed it. He even knew the cause just based on my description of the issue before we even started the massage. I highly recommend him!"

Candida Tookey

"Amazing results! I've been meeting with Craig for a few months now, and we've managed to completely obliterate my chronic shoulder pain. Craig uses a number of different modalities to address issues you may be experiencing. He's enthusiastic about his work, and it comes through in our sessions. Craig's jovial and professional personality was key to putting any hesitations I may have had at ease, as he was the first male massage therapist I've worked with. Always comfortable, always professional."

Kim Davidson

"Lexy was great. She's clearly passionate about massage, health & fitness, and she was very knowledgeable on ways to correct tightness in my body. She even provided stretching suggestions/examples specific to my problem areas after my massage time had run out."
