Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique that uses special cups to create suction on your skin and muscle. At St. Albert Massage Therapy, we place sterilized medical grade silicone suction cups on the areas of concern. This creates a vacuum inside, which draws your skin and underlying tissues upwards into the cup. The cups may be adjusted as needed and are left on your skin for anywhere from 5-20 minutes, depending on your needs. Cupping is performed to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension and pain, and promote healing.
What is cupping?
Cupping therapy is generally considered safe, especially since our Massage Therapists are experienced and certified to provide this technique, and maintain a sterile environment. However, there are some potential side effects to be aware of, such as temporary circular marks on the skin, mild discomfort during treatment, and (rarely) skin irritation. If you take medications that affect blood clotting, or have skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, talk to your doctor first.

Is massage with cupping right for me?
Our massage therapy with cupping might be right for you if you're experiencing muscle tension, pain, or stiffness, and are looking for a complementary approach to manage these issues. It can also be helpful for promoting relaxation and general well-being. However, if you have any concerns or pre-existing conditions, discuss it with your doctor first!
Pain Relief
Cupping may help alleviate pain from various conditions like chronic neck pain, back pain, and headaches. The suction improves blood flow, reduce inflammation, and ease muscle tension, contributing to pain relief.
Better Range of Motion
Cupping can loosen tight muscles and fascia (connective tissue) by mechanically lifting and separating them. This can ease muscle tension and stiffness, potentially leading to improved flexibility and range of motion.
Improved Circulation
The suction created by the cups aims to increase blood flow to the affected area. This enhanced circulation could bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to promote healing and reduce inflammation in the tissues.
Reduced Congestion from Allergies or Colds
Cupping applied to the chest and back may help loosen mucus and improve circulation, potentially aiding in relieving congestion from colds or allergies.
Repetitive Strain Injury & Sports Recovery
Cupping can be beneficial to athletes, those in a physically or mentally intensive job, and anyone recovering from strenuous activity. With massage, it promotes muscle repair by flushing out lactic acid, the byproduct of exercise that can cause soreness.
Stress, Anxiety, and General Relief
With massage, cupping can promote relaxation by easing muscle tension and potentially stimulating the nervous system to promote a sense of calm. This can be helpful for managing stress and improving sleep quality!
Decreased Reliance on Medication
Combining cupping with massage can reduce your need for over-the-counter medications. When your sleep and physical health improve, it can result in less frequent use of medications that you might be taking for physical and mental help.

What Our Clients Are Saying
"The people are great! Friendly staff and flexible appointments. They have direct billing with insurance too which is really nice. I've been going in for deep tissue massage for the last 3 weeks and my muscles are finally loosening up. Grace is amazing at deep tissue massage. I highly recommend her if that's what you're looking for... and it takes me a lot to say that. I don't give praise unless it's deserved."
Tannis Mason
"I dealt with shoulder pain for a year and half. I saw multiple massage therapists throughout that time and no one could seem to relieve the pain and stiffness. One session with Craig and he fixed it. He even knew the cause just based on my description of the issue before we even started the massage. I highly recommend him!"
Candida Tookey
"Amazing results! I've been meeting with Craig for a few months now, and we've managed to completely obliterate my chronic shoulder pain. Craig uses a number of different modalities to address issues you may be experiencing. He's enthusiastic about his work, and it comes through in our sessions. Craig's jovial and professional personality was key to putting any hesitations I may have had at ease, as he was the first male massage therapist I've worked with. Always comfortable, always professional."
Kim Davidson
"Lexy was great. She's clearly passionate about massage, health & fitness, and she was very knowledgeable on ways to correct tightness in my body. She even provided stretching suggestions/examples specific to my problem areas after my massage time had run out."
